Polyethylene glycol 40000 is a non-toxic water-soluble polymer of ethylene glycol. Applications for PEG 40000 include chromatography, histology, microscopy, and creation of hydrogels, modification of proteins to increase their bioavailability and for pegylation of proteins. Not to be confused with PEG 4000, a small molecular weight compound.
