The IEF-SYS horizontal isoelectric focusing system is optimized for IEF applications using IPG Strips and precast horizontal IEF gels. The large 27 x 27cm ceramic cooling plate connects to an optional chiller for rapid and sustained cooling. The plates will accommodate two 125mm square or one 245 x 125mm precast gels, or a maximum of thirty 24cm IPG strips, at their respective operating temperatures of 4 and 20°C.

 An acrylic electrode frame sits directly on the ceramic cooling plate for IEF gels, whereas a glass electrode frame may be employed when using IPG strips.  In both applications, the positive and negative electrodes can be adjusted within the electrode frame - so that the voltage may be fine-tuned along each length of gel or IPG strip - and then held in position by a glass electrode weight. This unit has been proof tested with the following Serva Electrophoresis products: Serva IPG BlueStrips and Servalyt Precotes.

The IEF-SYS unit can be also adapted for wick-based electrophoresis with horizontal precast gels. The tank is a leak proof design with 99.99% Platinum electrodes.
