 Glucose oxidase enzyme or GOx is used to determine free glucose in body fluids (diagnostics), in vegetal raw material, and in the food industry. Additionally it has applications in biotechnologies, typically enzyme assays for biochemistry including biosensors in nanotechnologies

 

Structure: A dimeric enzyme consisting of two identical polypeptides of approx. 80 kD which are disulphide-linked.Each subunit contains 1 mole of FAD. The enzyme is glycosylated, containing approximately 12 % carbohydrate.

 

Isoelectric point: pH 4.6

pH optimum: pH 5.5 with broad range 4 – 7

 

Inhibitors: p-chloromercuribenzoate, heavy metal ions, hydroxylamine, hydrazine, sodium bisulphite.

 

Unit definition: 1 U catalyzes the oxidation of 1 µmole glucose to glucuronic acid per minute at 25 °C, pH 7 coupled with peroxidase ando-dianisidine.

 

Extraneous activities: Amylase, maltase and invertase less than 0.05 %.

Catalase: less than 0.01 U/mg material

GOD/catalase: min. 25 000
